Our historic museum also features all aspects of Irish country life from 1800 – 1900 plus veteran cars from 1901 – 1930. After your visit relax in our café and browse in our gift and saddlery shop. Dartfield museum is a purpose built facility, one of Ireland’s premier tourist attractions. Originally opened to pay tribute to the unique Irish horse breeds the museum has now expanded and now encompasses the history of rural Ireland as well as exhibiting the forerunners of our modern motor cars.
Dartfield is the vision of legendry Irish horseman Willie Leahy who also leads the Connemara and Coast trails. He is Field master of the Galway Blazers Hunt and is the largest breeder of Connemara ponies in the world. Dartfield is set in 350 acres of parkland and visitors are welcome to explore our walking trails and see the farm animals. The museum has facilities for the disabled and is an ideal venue for coach parties, school tours and provides a convenient stop on one of Ireland’s arterial roads.
We have horse riding available by the hour, half or full day, to suit all levels of ability.
