Welcome to An Droichead
Based in south Belfast, five minutes walk from Belfast’s city centre,
An Droichead is at the cutting edge in provision of the Irish language and culture.Lárionad an Droichid is a modern, multi-award winning, purpose built, cultural centre boasting a state of the Art music and arts venue, exhibition space and community facility. The centre has full disabled access with the addition of secure parking. In 2009-09 An Droichead welcomed more than 7,000 people through its doors.
In addition to the provision of Irish language classes from beginner to advanced levels, we are widely recognised as one of Ireland’s premier traditional music venues, regularly playing host to the cream of talent from Ireland and Scotland. As an integral part of An Droichead’s events programme, we host art and craft exhibitions, lectures, and workshops in traditional arts and crafts. The workshops cover diverse traditional skills such as bog oak carving, basket making, pottery, Celtic art, Celtic jewellery making, singing, dance and traditional music skills.
The centre shares the grounds with our sister project Scoil an Droichid providing Irish Medium education for 150 children at nursery, pre-school and primary levels.
The centre is wholly inclusive in all aspects of its arts, language and cultural activities and a warm welcome is guaranteed to all.Awarded Best Irish Language Project (All Ireland) by Glór na nGael 2009 & 2005
