Tramore Golf Club was founded over 110 years ago in 1894 on a piece of a land adjoining Tramore’s old race course in the Back Strand. Originally opened as a 9 hole links, the course was battered by raging storms, with the sea bursting through the dam between the course and Back Strand on many occasions, including the great storm of 1911, leaving the links unplayable for months on end. This constant threat from the fury of the sea forced the club to move progressively inland, and finally, in early 1939, Tramore Golf Club relocated to their present site on Newtown Hill, with its opening marked by an exhibition fourball consisting of the legendary Joe Brown, John Burke, Paddy Mahon and Jimmy Bruen.
At just under 6,700 yards off the tips, Tramore is a fair test for golfers of all abilities – but don’t be fooled by its undeniable beauty, all it takes is one stray shot to ruin a potentially respectable scorecard and leave you thinking.
